Refacing Options

There are a number of ways to turn your existing kitchen into a beautiful new, better functioning, area.

The kitchen, for many, has become the "hub" of the home. Where time spent consists of reconnecting with your kids, visiting friends and family, helping with homework, and planning for other life wants and wishes. It is also the main area that will increase (or decrease!) the value of your home.

With so many choices available to consumers, it is hard to know what is best for you. Planning your kitchen renovation around a budget is the number one decision that homeowners need to make before looking at different renovation options. Talking to a professional is definitely a step in the right direction to help you determine a reasonable budget for your kitchen renovation. Most budgets are based upon the overall value of your home.

Once you have determined your kitchen renovation budget, one or a combination of the following choices may be what you are looking for to help you achieve your dream kitchen:
  1. The most economical way to rejuvenate your kitchen is to simply replace your cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Adding new pulls (hardware) puts the finishing touches on your new look. Often the "wow" factor is created by the small little details like hardware.
  2. Updating your kitchen space, by giving it a modern feel with the addition of crown moulding, under cabinet moulding for lighting, and finishing trims.
  3. Improving the flow and functionality of your cabinets creates more space and ease of access. For example, a double door base cabinet can be turned into large pots and pans drawers, allowing for better access and organization.
  4. Do a complete refacing of your kitchen! A total refacing renovation on your kitchen can include changing the color or type of material, such as oak to maple wood. New cabinet doors and drawer styles, hidden hinging, brushed nickel or oil-rubbed handles, new countertops, and more storage! Refacing your kitchen will not only provide you with better functionality, use of space and an updated look, but it will also greatly increase the value of your entire home.
A complete refacing job does cost a little more, but only about 60% of replacing your cabinetry. By choosing to reface your kitchen over completely renovating the entire space, your environmental fingerprint is reduced. Refacing your kitchen cabinets enables you to use the existing boxes that are essentially the framework of your kitchen, instead of discarding them into the landfill.

Refacing your kitchen cabinets might seem like a large project, but the actual time it takes to finish the job is approximately 3 to 5 days (depending on the size of your initial kitchen).
